The computer's primary storage from which instructions are retrieved by the CPU. #
(Graphics) A pattern of scanning lines that provides a uniform coverage of display.#
(Modeling) Ray tracing is a computation-intensive technique that plots a view of every pixel in a scene through a virtual camera's lens. It takes into account the location, strength, and quality (pinpoint or diffuse) of all light sources, along with the surface characteristics of each object in the scene. Shiny objects reflect other objects, and realistic shadows are cast. Ray tracing bounces the light through the model rather than terminating light values when they first intersect an object. The color and direction of the light is changed by the reflective and spectral properties of the object. More complex than reflection mapping. #
A standard cable type that carries audio and composite video signals for consumer stereos, camcorders and VCRs.#
To retrieve data from a device and place it in the computer's memory. #
SCSI mode Page Parameter for hard drive controllers that automatically sets the drive to stream data regardless of error conditions controlled by other mode page parameter settings. Generally available for drives with on-the-fly hardware error correction only.#
Non-volatile primary memory containing programs that cannot be erased. #
Mode page parameter controlling the number of times a hard drive controller will try to access erroneous data before moving on. #
1. Recording animation and graphics to video as they are played at full speed from the computer. Results in overlapping of fields/frames on tape and thus degrades image quality somewhat. Overcome by using frame-by-frame recording.
2. A time code technique in editing that relies on less than frame specific tracking or control. May apply in terms of both the control track information and the accuracy of the device. 3. Displaying a multimedia image or responding to a user's request almost simultaneously with its occurrence. 4. Grabbing in real time is grabbing a field in 1/60 sec or a frame in 1/30 sec.#
Windows 95 provides an option on the View menu of the Recycle Bin to display the name, original location, date deleted, type and size of each file. #
A default desktop icon in Windows 95 that allows you to delete files that can be restored until you empty the recycle bin and permanently delete them. #
The first compact disk standard that provides specifications for digital audio on compact disk. #
(Modeling) A method of mapping an image onto an object in which the image is a rendering of the object's environment. The resulting mirror effect adds realism and takes much less time to calculate than ray tracing. Lacks the ability to calculate second order light effects. See Bump Mapping, Mapping, Texture Mapping, Ray Tracing. #
(Computer Graphics) Scanning an image on the screen. The refresh rate or frequency refers to the number of frames scanned on the screen per second (otherwise known as vertical scanning frequency, expressed in Hz). Typically refresh rates for computer monitors are 60-75 Hz.#
This Windows 95 control panel program allows the user to change the way numbers, currencies, dates and times are displayed, enabling proper international exchanges of information. #
Tracking scheme found in consumer VCRs and camcorders that works by adding one second to the counter when the tape is played for one second (also compensating for fast forward, rewind, etc.). Called a "relative" counter because when hit the reset button is the counter displays zero, so at any given time the counter value may not actually represent location. HMS stands for "hour/minute/second" or the values that appear on the counter.#
Procedure for changing the name of a file or folder. #
(Modeling) The process of taking a geometric model, a lighting model, a camera view, and other image generation parameters such as maps to compute an image in raster.#
To take existing content in either traditional or digital form and use it in a new multimedia application.#
Button on the outside of your PC that causes the computer to reboot. #
The process of changing the size of a current window by clicking on the resize tab or another window corner and dragging the mouse. #
The tab located in the lower right corner of a window that provides a larger area to grab when resizing a window. #
(Computer Graphics) Resolution is usually specified in dots per inch (dpi) or total pixels (640 X 480, for example). The higher the resolution, or the greater the number of dpi, the more addressable dots displayed. For film recorders, resolution usually refers to the number of lines that makes up the entire screen on a display or on film. The resolution of film recorders ranges from the low PC standard (200 lines for CGA to 350 lines for EGA) up to 10,000 lines. An acceptable range for 35mm business presentation slides is 2,000 to 4,000 lines.#
To replace lost information by accessing a copy of the original information that has been stored on a backup disk or tape. #
The button that restores a maximized window to a normal window. You can use this button to restore a communications program window to its normal size. #
(Computer Graphics) Return of the electron beam to the left side or top of the screen after a horizontal or vertical scan.#
Any procedure involved in obtaining useful information from a computer system. #
(Computer Graphics, Video) A method of displaying color video by transmitting the three colors of light as three separate signals. There are two ways of using RGB with computers: TTL (digital) RGB, which allows the color signals to take on only a few discrete values, and analog RGB, which allows the color signals to take on any value between its upper and lower limits, for a wide range of colors. RGB also refers to a method of specifying color by its component proportions of red, green, and blue. Other colors are achieved by mixing the values at less than 100%. Orange light for example can be achieved by mixing 100% red light and 50% green light.#
To depress the button on the right side of the mouse. #
The legal ownership of a particular work, copies of a particular work and its use either directly or in altered form. Rights may be limited or unlimited and are subject to negotiation under applicable laws.#
A standard telephone jack used commonly as an Appletalk network connector.#
A standard telephone jack used commonly as an Ethernet network connector.#
(Modeling) The rate at which apparent light intensity decreases as a function of angle away from a spotlight's direction. A value of zero means that the light intensity is constant over the area illuminated.#
The top level directory created by the operating system on a disk. #
